Port of Santander

Land Transport and Travel To and From Port Santander
(Santander, Cantabria, Spain)

An excellent road and railway network connects Santander with all the other regions of Spain, the Spanish coast and Portugal.

Exploring the area by car can be rewarding as all the interesting places can easily be reached by road. The majority of the Spanish roads are in excellent condition and are well sign posted.

Travel by Bus and Shuttles

Buses run to the port, throughout the city and to other national and international destinations. Services are frequent and reliable and it is one of the cheapest ways to get around Santander and Cantabria. A timetable for local, regional, national and international bus lines from Santander can be found at: www.santandereabus.com

Car Hire and Road Travel

An efficient network of roads connects Santander with the rest of Spain including the Spanish Costa's and Portuguese destinations. Follow the N634 westwards along the coast to the direction of Coruna, and eastwards to the direction of Bilbao. The N611 runs south to Valladolid.

Due to the excellent road network, it might be worthwhile hiring a car and exploring the region at your own pace. Car hire can be arranged in Santander as several car rental companies have depots in the city. It is, however, recommended to book online and in advance as you will get the best deal and be guaranteed the car of your choice.

Trains and Rail Travel

RENFE is Spain's national railway operator and has connections to almost every city, town and village across the country. The train station is located on the Plaza de las Estaciones square in the centre of the city. The Spanish railway network is reliable and efficient. Compared to many other West European countries train tickets are less expensive and therefore an economic way to travel throughout the country.

Car Parking

A short- and long-term car parking facility is available at the port. A specially designated car parking area for disabled travellers is also offered.

Travel by Taxis

Most of the time taxis are waiting for arriving ferries. They can be found outside the exit of the terminal. An information board inside the terminal also provides numbers to phone for taxi services. The most reputed taxi company in Santander is Radio Taxis, which can be reached by calling + 34 942 33 33 33.
