Port of Santander

Harbour Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Santander, Cantabria, Spain)

The Port of Santander transports about 150,000 passengers per year to Plymouth. Santander is connected by excellent road and railway facilities, linking the city with Portugal, the Spanish Costa's and other parts of Spain, and the airport is just 3 km / 2 miles from the city. A number of enchanting buildings contribute to Santander's historic quarter, located against a breathtaking back ground of the ocean and mountainous areas.

Excellent amenities for ferries and cruisers, including a passenger terminal in the city's centre, put the Port of Santander in a benefiting position to provide visitors with a wide and interesting range of leisure options.

The spacious and modern passenger terminal has excellent public facilities including: telephones, a souvenir shop, banks, a supermarket, a restaurant and a tourist information desk.

Santander is located on Spain's northern coast and is the capital of the autonomous community of Cantabria. The port provides a major entrance into the Spanish mainland. Brittany Ferries offers a service twice a week between Santander and Plymouth onboard their flag ship the Pont Avon.

Those looking for cheap accommodation in the city will be able to choose between a number of budget hotels around both the bus and the railway stations. The Playa del Sardinero is always a pleasant place to stay, although some of the smallest lodging options here often close completely during the low season. Santander villas are becoming increasingly popular with holidaymakers looking for more space and privacy, and good choices are to be found around the park of Las Llamas and outside of the city, in nearby Comillas and close to the beaches of Sardinero.

Ferry Services

Brittany Ferries operates up to two ferry crossings a week with an approximate journey time of 20 hours, 30 minutes. Ferries sail between March and September. The company has a modern fleet operating on the western channel offering a choice of cruise and high speed vessels.

All their ferries provide excellent on board amenities, including shopping, dining and live entertainment. The ferry operating the route between Santander and Plymouth is the Pont Aven, a luxurious £100m flagship ferry, in service since March 2004, setting high standards in passenger ferry navigation.
